Struggling To Talk
I sat down, a rush hit me. Nervously my mouth opened, nothing came out. One hour past, I survived the very awkward conversation with the elderly. I stepped outside, relief fell upon me. I enjoyed the experience, and learnt life is precious live it to the fullest. By: Emily. G Date: 18/09/2014 Term 3, Week 10, Social Justice Unit. I think this verse relates to our social justice unit because the widow is very poor and she gave up what she had left to the poor at a charity event. The widow still gave everything that she relies on to the Temple Treasury. It relates to the unit because she gave to charity when she was the one in need of charity. She was giving when she got nothing in return, even though she really needed it. Also she was a widow, so if her husband was still alive and working she would have much more money, but she has none because her husband has unfortunately passed.
The Widow’s Offering
41Jesus sat down opposite the place where the offerings were put and watched the crowd putting their money into the temple treasury. Many rich people threw in large amounts. 42But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a few cents. 43Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others. 44They all gave out of their wealth; but she, out of her poverty, put in everything—all she had to live on.” “I think each village was meant to feel pity for its own sick and poor whom it can help and I doubt if it is the duty of any private person to fix his mind on ills which he cannot help. This may even become an escape from the works of charity we really can do to those we know. God may call any one of us to respond to some far away problem or support those who have been so called. But we are finite and he will not call us everywhere or to support every worthy cause. And real needs are not far from us.”
― C.S. Lewis When you walk past homeless people on the street you avoid them and in your mind say yuck, but you don't know their story. It may not be their fault that they are homeless, they could have been abandoned or went broke couldn't make rent and were kicked out of the house. These people have nothing ,but we have is what they ever so desperately want ,but unfortunately they know there is a 0.00001% chance they are going to get it. Knowing that feeling would feel terrible in your gut. When people become homeless they may become depressed and turn to drugs and alcohol, and if it gets worse they can turn to suicide which is always bad.
But everyone can change this there are people out there who give up there time to help the homeless, to give them food, water, clothes and sometimes even shelter. We all should dedicate some time to help others. There are organisations that you can join or volunteer for and make a difference. This is what social justice is about helping and looking out for those who can't look after themselves. And it's not always homeless people it can be poor people, drug addicts or alcoholics and a lot more, so we all should chip in and help make a difference in the world, and get the people off the street and healthy. If you want to help the community here is some ways that you can try...
Matthew 25: 31-40
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. 32Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. 34Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’37Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? 38And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? 39And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers,f you did it to me.’ Hi everyone,
