This story shows that no matter who helps you, you should be grateful for them. The Samaritan was an enemy of the nearly dead man, but he still helped him and used his money, and what he had to do so. We can all be like that and shouldn't just by like the priest and Levite, who were passerbys. You'd expect that the priest and Levite would have helped the injured man, since they believe in God and do work in the church/community. But they didn't help the injured man, and the person the injured man least expected to help him did. It's like us, we expect adults to go and help people in need, and don't really realise that we could be helping that person instead.
